This qualification equips you to design, implement and evaluate leisure and health activities and programs to support everyday lives for clients in residential facilities, community agencies or day centres. This qualification is designed for those who want to work in lifestyle, recreation and therapy roles within the aged care, disability or community sectors.
Throughout the course, you will learn to work effectively in leisure and health industries and contribute to the programming for clients with complex needs. You will also build your knowledge of safe work practices, lifespan development and sociological concepts, communication and relationship building and professional practices.
To be awarded this qualification, you must successfully complete 17 units of competency, 10 core units and 7 elective units. The electives for this course have been selected by Partners in Training Australia through industry consultation.

Entry Requirements
- There are no mandatory prerequisites to enrol in this qualification.
- Physical attributes suitable for workplace experience within the aged/disability care industry which encompasses manual handling of equipment and clients.
- Applicants must attend a course information session and then to determine suitability, complete a:
- Pre-training Review (PTR)
- Language, Literacy and Numeracy and Digital skills assessment (LLND)
Class Attendance
- Students must attend one class per week, choosing between:
- Online (virtual classroom), or
- Face-to-face (onsite classroom).
Class Times:
- Day classes: 9:00AM – 4:00PM (7 hours).
- Evening classes (online only): 5:00PM – 9:00PM (4 hours).
- Additional time is required each week for private study, research, and completing assessments outside of scheduled class hours.
Technology Requirements
- You will need access to:
- A computer, laptop, or tablet with a stable internet connection.
- Zoom application, headphones/speakers & microphone capabilities for virtual classes.
- An laptop or tablet for onsite classroom session to access your course materials and assessments via our online Learning Management System (LMS).
Work Placement
- This course includes a minimum of 120 hours of work placement in a relevant community service/aged/disability care setting.
- Before starting placement, you must obtain a current and satisfactory Police Check, Working with Children Check, NDIS Work Screening Check, evidence of influenza vaccination and COVID-19 vaccination (unless an exception applies).
Training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding if you are eligible for a Skills First subsidised training place.

Graduates of this qualification may choose to further their studies by enrolling in the CHC53415 Diploma of Leisure and Health.
Graduates of this qualification can expect to apply for employment in the community services, aged care in occupational titles such as Recreation Activities Officer, Community Leisure Officer, Disability Officer – Day Support and Diversional Therapy Assistant.
