This qualification covers how clients are affected by alcohol and other drugs, the range of services available to them and health issues related to alcohol and other drugs use and misuse with focus on complex client needs, case management and treatment planning in alcohol and other drugs services.
This course equips and builds practical skills, knowledge, understanding to provide advanced interventions in the areas of counselling, referral, advocacy, education and promotion services to support individuals dealing with substance use issues.
This Diploma is ideal if you want to work in community services, rehab centres, outreach, or AOD-specific clinics providing individualised support, apply trauma-informed and culturally safe practices or lead and supervise other AOD support workers.
To be awarded this qualification, you must be successfully complete 21 of 22 units of competency, 15 core units and 6 elective units. For this qualification you will need to provide us with your Statement of Attainment for unit HLTAID011 Provide First Aid from another education provider for the purpose of Credit Transfer. The electives for this course have been selected by Partners in Training Australia through industry consultation.

Entry Requirements
- There are no mandatory prerequisites to enrol in this qualification.
- Applicants must attend a course information session and then to determine suitability, complete a:
- Pre-training Review (PTR)
- Language, Literacy and Numeracy and Digital skills assessment (LLND)
Class Attendance
- Students must attend one class per week, choosing between:
- Online (virtual classroom), or
- Face-to-face (onsite classroom).
Class Times:
- Day classes: 9:30AM – 4:30PM (7 hours).
- Evening classes (online only): 5:00PM – 9:00PM (4 hours).
- Additional time is required each week for private study, research, and completing assessments outside of scheduled class hours.
Technology Requirements
- You will need access to:
- A computer, laptop, or tablet with a stable internet connection.
- Zoom application, headphones/speakers, microphone & webcam capabilities for virtual classes.
- A laptop or tablet for onsite classroom session to access your course materials and assessments via our online Learning Management System (LMS).
Work Placement
- This course includes a minimum of 160 hours of work placement in a relevant community service delivery setting.
- Before starting placement, you must obtain:
- A current and satisfactory Victorian Working with Children Check.
- Additional clearances (e.g., Police Check) may be required depending on your placement provider.
Training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding if you are eligible for a Skills First subsidised training place. The below Skills First Funded Course Fees are only applicable to students who live in a regional postcode. Please refer to our Postcode List on our student information page for regional postcodes.
