This qualification will develop the strategic, financial and operational management skills required to manage services, departments and projects in a range of community organisations and government services.

It is designed for those already working in the community services environment who wish to upskill to a coordinator or middle management role. It covers management functions such as leadership and team performance, human resources, managing diversity, finance, government regulations and quality frameworks.

To be awarded this qualification, you must successfully complete 15 units of competency, 8 core units and 5 elective units.  The electives for this course have been selected by Partners in Training Australia through industry consultation.

Entry Requirements

  1. You are 21 years of age or older; AND
  2. Aspire to become a middle Manger or Manger across a range of Community sector organisations; AND
  3. You meet ONE of the below:
    • Have or are working towards completing a Diploma level qualification, with at least 2 years of working experience in community services or other relevant fields (resume to be provided & approved prior to the PTR session); OR
    • Have or are working towards completing a Diploma level qualification and can provide a supporting letter from your current employer whose organisation is in the community services sector or other relevant field (letter to be provided and approved prior to the PTR session); OR
    • Have at least 3 years working experience in the community services sector or other relevant field (resume to be provided & approved before the PTR session); OR
    • Can provide a supporting letter from your current employer. Your employer must be in the community services sector or other relevant field (letter to be provided and approved prior to the PTR session)
  4. Students will need to demonstrate that they have the appropriate language, literacy and numeracy skills (LLN), including digital skills to undertake this course by taking a Pre-Training Review at enrolment.

Class Attendance

  • Students must attend one online (Virtual Classroom) evening class per week or one online (virtual classroom) day class a fortnight.

Class Times:

  • Day classes: 9:00AM – 4:00PM (7 hours).
  • Evening classes (online only): 5:00PM – 9:00PM or 5.30PM – 9.30PM (4 hours).
  • Additional time is required each week for private study, research, and completing assessments outside of scheduled class hours.

Technology Requirements

  • You will need access to:
    • A computer, laptop, or tablet with a stable internet connection.
    • Zoom application, headphones/speakers, microphone & webcam capabilities for virtual classes.

Training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding if you are eligible for a Skills First subsidised training place. The below Skills First Funded Course Fees are only applicable to students who live in a regional postcode. Please refer to our Postcode List on our student information page for regional postcodes.

This qualification can provide you with a pathway to a relevant university degree such as Bachelor of Community Services, Bachelor of Social Science (Welfare) or Bachelor of Social Sciences.

Completion of this qualification can lead your current employment in the community service industry in varying occupational titles such as Disability Team Leader, Community Care Manager, Project Manager (Community Servies) Local Area Coordinator, Community Services Manager and Program Coordinator

As part of the application of enrolment process, we ask you to attend an Information/ Enrolment Session that will involve a written Pre-Training Review with an Enrolment Officer who will be available to support you through the process.
